Keep It Dry.

Nothing can dampen your mood like trying to start a fire with damp wood and kindling.  Not only is wet wood tough to burn, but it also creates more smoke than heat.  Keep your firewood dry and in a place where it’s not likely to get wet.  Also, aged, dried firewood is the way to go when trying to quickly light and maintain a roaring, warm fire for many hours.
